Cigar of the Week
Ramon Bueso
Olancho-2005 Reserva
6.99 (+10% off!)

Strength:  Medium-Full
Wrapper:  Habano
Origin:  Honduras

This is the cigar that Ramon always wanted to make, and his passion really shines through. All of the tobaccos in this blend are absolutely flawless, aged, handpicked leaves, with each cigar receiving personalized attention and care. So what’s in this recipe? We’ve got an aged 2005 binder leaf from Talanga Valley, and a wide variety of long-filler leaves including selections from 2008 Nicaraguan Esteli, 2010 Honduras La Entrada, 2008 Honduran Jamastran, and 2003 Honduras Olancho. On top of all of that, the wrapper is a Colorado Oscuro Olancho, grown exclusively for this cigar. These leaves were purposefully fermented for a shorter amount of time than industry standard, and the experiment paid off with an absolutely unique flavor unlike any other cigar on the market.

Lighting this one up, I find a medium to full-bodied blend with blasts of earth, spice, leather, and cedar in a harmony that feels different than anything I’ve burnt before. Each cigar this guy puts out tastes better than the last, and with Olancho Vintage, we’re seeing Ramon’s finest work to date. I’d easily recommend this cigar to any enthusiast. Stock up, because with the rarity of these fine leaves, this is one limited release you absolutely don’t want to miss out on.

The original Oliva ‘O’ cigar renamed and repackaged….but tasty as ever!

This is a classic Oliva blend that helped put them on the map. The highly acclaimed ‘O’ cigar series offers a diverse range of robust flavors that are chewy and rich, yet smooth from start to finish. A Nicaraguan puro that boasts a dark Habano-seed wrapper. Serie ‘O’ is a triumph for Oliva.

Beer of the Week
Creature Comforts
Modern Times
8.0% ABV

DOUBLE IPA

Modern Comforts is a collaboration with our friends at Modern Times in San Diego. For this massively hopped Double IPA we used Citra and Mosaic hop pellets, CO2 hop extract, and lupulin powder from YCH Hops. Using all three of these hop products, and putting our minds together with our west coast friends, we absolutely saturated the hop flavor and aroma in this beer.

Modern Comforts pours a pale golden orange color with an off white, pearl foam. Upon pouring, we get citrus zest, blueberry, fresh squeezed orange juice, tropical fruit and some light floral notes. The flavor turns it all up a notch moving into earthy, melon rind, pineapple, and more tropical fruit notes that finish with a medium bitterness. It’s a love letter for the hop head consumer from a couple hop head breweries.

Cheers & enjoy!

Cigar of the Week
Alec Bradley
Black Market Filthy Hooligan
$9.99 (+10% off!)
This weeks Cigar is only discounted for our newsletter followers.

Strength:  Medium
Wrapper:  Honduras, Nicaragua
Origin:  Honduras

Alec Bradley Cigars is adding a new twist to this year’s Black Market Filthy Hooligan, the company’s annual limited-edition St. Patrick’s Day cigar.

While past iterations of Filthy Hooligan have been covered only in green-hued candela wrapper, the 2016 edition will be a barber-pole cigar, the first ever from Alec Bradley. The fourth iteration of Filthy Hooligan intertwines green candela wrapper from Honduras with dark, brown leaf cultivated from Nicaragua’s Jalapa Valley.

“This year, I wanted to create a totally different version of the Filthy Hooligan,” said Alan Rubin, president of Alec Bradley cigars.

Measuring 6 inches by 50 ring gauge, the 2016 Filthy Hooligan will retail for $8.50 and is a tweaked version of the company’s Black Market blend, as it uses fillers from Honduras and Panama along with an Ecuadoran Sumatra binder. The result is a brawnier flavor profile that Rubin believes will have broader appeal.

“The unique flavor of a candela wrapper is something that every cigar smoker should experience at least once,” said Rubin. “Add the dark Jalapa wrapper and it’s not only more flavorful, but the barber-pole form can also be very appealing visually. When it comes to just a green cigar, we’ve been there, done that.”

As in previous years, the 2016 Filthy Hooligan was rolled at Tabacos de Oriente in Danlí, Honduras and will be packed in green, wooden crates that hold 22 cigars. Only 2,000 boxes will be released, and The Lincoln is where you can get yours!!!

Beer of the Week
Scofflaw Brewing
Sucker Punch
American IPA
6.8% ABV

This beer is sooo fresh from the brewery we had to call one of the brewers to get you the legit description!  Thank you James Bruner!
Sucker punch – Pours a hazy golden orange with fluffy cloud white head that dissipates slowly to leave good lacing. Aroma of pungent zesty tart citrus from the pomelo with accompanying tropical and piney hop character from the zythos and mosaic. Taste has a big citrus bite up front with a nice malty balance, juicy hops in the middle, and a pithy bitterness to round it out. The fruit and hops blend nicely, a medium body and soft carbonation make this a crushable IPA.

Beer of the Week: Breckenridge 471 Bourbon Barrel Aged

Style: Double IPA

ABV: 9.2%

Breckenridge Brewery has released the first in its new 471 IPA Barrel Series. The series features the brewery’s celebrated 471 Double IPA which is aged in whiskey barrels then dry hopped using a new hop variety every quarter.

Brewery Director Todd Usry explains, “We pamper this beer. One might call it high-maintenance, but we’re extremely proud of the outcome.” The final dry hop treatment puts flavor and aroma back in the beer that barrels may otherwise overcome. Brandon Osha, the brewery’s cellar master, elaborates, “We move the beer as usual from tank to filtration to barrel, but then we take it back into tanks for dry hop treatment and follow that up with a final filtration.” He goes on to add, “Yeah, it’s kind of laborious, but it’s worth it.”

The first release of 471 IPA Barrel Series features Hüll Melon hops in the dry hop stage. “The aroma of Hüll Melon is really unique – a nice shift from the more common floral and citrus hop attributes,” shares Usry. Traces of honey dew melon and apricot accompany the rich whiskey and slightly smoky scents that the barrels lend. Classic oaky flavors from the barrels are present beginning to end, joined by a bit of vanilla and nutmeg. The base 471 Double IPA is known for its big malty mouth feel, and this variation of the beer is no exception.

We’re stoked about this event and so are a lot of you!

Cigar of the Week
Gurkha Classic Havana
$8.49 (+10% off!)

cow1

Strength:  Medium
Wrapper:  San Andres
Origin:  Nicaragua

After years of searching years for the perfect concoction of wrapper, binder, and filler, the guys at Gurkha have uncovered a Cuban-esque blend for the record books. They took their time with this one, meticulously tweaking the blend over twenty times until they knew they had achieved the perfect Havana flavor profile. Introducing Gurkha Classic Havana Blend, a nod to those revered blends of Cuba’s past.

Hailing from the fertile soils of Nicaragua that prove time and time again to encompass many of the same qualities as the revered Cubans of the past, Classic Havana Blend delivers in spades. Rocking a milk chocolaty Mexican San Andres wrapper, this gem begs to be lit at first sight. Medium-bodied and brimming with flavor, this box-pressed beauty permeates with notes of spice, earth, and nuts. If you yearn for that cherished Cuban taste or are looking to experience something darn close for the first time, Gurkha Classic Havana Blend is the choice cut for you.

Beer of the Week
Creature Comforts Dry Hopped Athena
Berliner Weissbier
ABV 4.5%

ccdha
We tell everyone to crave curiosity, well here’s us being curious. We took everyone’s favorite berliner and added a cool twist by dry hopping with Galaxy hops for a limited batch.
Dry hopping is a technique often used in IPAs where hops are added directly to the fermenter at the tail end of fermentation. Normally hops are added in the kettle or whirlpool during the brewing process, so adding at this stage is a little bit different, hence why it garners a different name – dry hopping.
Galaxy hops are an extraordinary Australian varietal that have a bright, juicy, fruit flavor they add to the beer. You may be a little familiar with this hop because Creature Comforts uses it as one of the hops in Tropicalia, but this is Galaxy all by itself. This version of Athena is a little tart, a little juicy, a little hoppy… it makes Athena a totally different beer that we really like.

Beer of the Week
Goose Island Matilda

gicirclematildayellow4c

Inspired by great Trappist ales, Goose Island’s complex Belgian Style Pale Ale is fermented with the wild yeast Brettanomyces. Matilda pours a golden sunrise color with dried fruit and clove aromas, a spicy yeast flavor, and a satisfying dry finish.

According to legend, a grateful Countess Matilda founded a monastery where, over centuries, monks have been brewing ale unique in character. While in Belgium, the brewers were inspired by the story and the monks’ beer. They returned to Chicago and brewed their homage – a Belgian Style Pale Ale named Matilda.
